A new Chronolog mount has been installed at the lookout pier on Grenadier Pond by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).  This pilot project invites visitors to take digital pictures of the same view over time and post them on the Chronolog website. The results can be seen at Chronolog’s Grenadier Pond page where they provide a kind of time-lapse photography of how the pond changes through the year.

Here’s how to contribute your photo:

  1. Rotate your cellphone to line up with the bracket, with your camera facing the pond.
  2. Take a photo of the view in front of you.
  3. Email your photo to [email protected] with the subject line “TOR-101“.

Then you can check Chronolog’s Grenadier Pond page to see how all the photos fit together.

Chronolog is a monitoring tool for parks, nature centres, wildlife organizations, schools, and museums worldwide. With over 60,000 contributors across 200 organizations, Chronolog is on a mission to engage communities with nature while recording important natural changes.

And that’s not all!

One more new device has been installed at the pier – a metre stick to measure the water level of Grenadier Pond. The pond’s level fluctuates through the seasons. To check the current level, stand near the shoreline just south of the lookout pier and look carefully under the edge of the pier (see photo below). If you’d like to be a regular “pond watcher”, simply keep track of the date and level and send your sightings to [email protected] with “Pond level” in the subject line.
